What is Wellness?

Wellness is a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving full potential. It is multi-dimensional and holistic, encompassing mental, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing, as well as lifestyle.

Wellness is positive and affirming. The message of mental health recovery is not remission or a miracle cure, but the process of living a fulfilling life despite illness and loss.

What is Recovery?

Recovery is a personal journey of wellness, resiliency and transformation. Recovery involves developing hope, a sense of self, supportive relationships, empowerment, social inclusion, coping skills and meaning. Recovery is supported by personal responsibility, self-advocacy, education, support and hope.

Wellness and Recovery are guiding principles of the NYS Office of Mental Health. The information posted on this site is a collection of Ulster County resources designed to help individuals craft their own individuals plans for Wellness & Recovery.
