TRANSPORTATION SERVICES IN ULSTER COUNTY

 

The three major public bus systems –

 

  • Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT)
  • Trailways
  • Kingston Citibus

 

UCAT-

These offer a variety of schedules to meet the needs of Ulster County residents. Riders can use exact change or purchase tokens, tickets or bus passes depending on which operator they use.

UCAT has recently updated its bus schedule, adding a new New Paltz loop.

To access the bus schedule on the internet, go to http://www.ulstercountyny.gov/ucat.

 

One-way fares begin at $.75. Seniors and people who qualify for Medicare and present the card pay half-fare between the hours of 10am and 2pm on all UCAT services.

People with disabilities who need accommodations should call 334-8120 Monday – Friday between 9am and 4 PM for next-day pickup. UCAT also sells monthly unlimited ride passes. For $65.00, you can have an unlimited number of rides for the entire month.

 

Kingston Citibus

Provides public transportation within the city of Kingston.

Half-fare is available on Citibus for all Medicare card holders. A seasonal trolley also runs through Kingston between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Fares run from $1.00 for regular riders to $1.50 for trips to Port Ewen and for Paratransit pick-up.

For commuters, www.nyrides.com is a good website to visit. It contains interactive maps which list public and private transportation service within each county, as well as the location of all park-and-ride lots. There is also information about car and van pools that you can participate in. www.metropool.com also provides free online ride matching services. You can also call 1-800-FIND-RIDE, or 511.

 

Additional Services Available through the Department of Social Services

People who are Medicaid-eligible or who are disabled (receiving SSD or Medicare) can receive a free unlimited ride bus pass. Please visit or call DSS at 334-5035 to find out if you are eligible.
